Area Attractions:
  • Lake Livingston: If fishing is your thing, Lake Livingston is the destination for you. At this 93,000 acre lake, you'll find some of the best fishing any time of the year with largemouth bass, white bass, crappie, and blue catfish. 80 miles northeast of Houston, Lake Livingston also offers boating, sailing, and jet skiing. With over 450 miles of shoreline and plenty of wildlife, this is a terrific spot for bird watching and nature hikes. Known as a local "water wonderland," this is the second largest lake in Texas. What a terrific place to enjoy a family outing!
  • Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation: The Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation was established in 1854, and is 4,593.7 acres large. It's located 17 miles east of Livingston. About half the tribe (500 people) live on the reservation. Nestled in the Big Thicket, the reservation is home to the Alabama and Coushatta, part of Southern forest tribes.
  • Sam Houston National Forest: Spring is the perfect time to hike the Lone Star Hiking Trail and enjoy the beauty of Sam Houston National Forest. You will see woodland violets, flowering Carolina Jasmine, redbuds and dogwoods. You will hear (and perhaps see) red-bellied and pileated woodpeckers, Carolina wrens, cardinals, and chickadees. Some 26 miles of the Lone Star Hiking Trail, including the Big Creek Scenic Area and the Winters Bayou Scenic Area, have received National Recreation Trail designation.
  • Tempe Creek Ranch Trail Rides: Located minutes from Lake Livingston, Tempe Creek Ranch provides an exciting 45 minute trail ride experience through 42 acres of wooded Texas trails. They take pride in offering a fun, safe, and enjoyable experience for every person who visits.
