Abel Mountain Campground, Braintree, VT - Passport America Partcipating Park

Only minutes off the highway, yet a quiet secluded haven, Abel Mountain Campground is nestled along the third branch of the White River, and features 131 spacious, grassy sites. This pleasant family camping destination has something for everyone! Like to hike? Pick up a trail map and wander through the 270 acres of trails just across the river. Love horseshoes? Come try out their horseshoe pits by the river. Want to take a dip? Try out the heated pool, or for the adventurous, rent a tube and float down the river. Do your children like playgrounds? They have two! Try your hand at winning during the weekly Bingo game, enjoy an evening of music at the pavilion or join in on a variety of other activities. If none of this catches your attention, just come enjoy the serene and friendly atmosphere surrounded by the relaxing sounds of the river.

Amenities at Abel Mountain Campground:
  • 130 + spacious sites, all with 20/30/50 amp service, water and cable, all but 14 are full hook up, many are riverside. All sites outfitted with a fire ring and picnic table. Approximately half of the sites are open for overnight guests, the rest are for long-term guests.

Park Activities:
  • Bingo: Try your luck at a game of Bingo in our open-air 'Bingo Hall', played weekly between May 27 & September 9.
  • Horseshoe Tournaments: Held each Saturday at 1:00PM throughout the season.
  • Ice Cream Socials: What better way to meet other campers and cool off after an afternoon at the pool. Everyone is welcome to join us for a scoop of your favorite ice cream and topping of choice.
  • Pot Luck Dinners: No need to fire up the grill ... mix up, cook up or whip up your favorite camping dish and head to the pavilion for some of the most mouth-watering buffets around!
  • Live Music: Bring your dancing shoes and/or a comfortable chair to enjoy an evening of fine music in the outdoors.
  • Annual Pig Roast: Let the aroma of the slow cooking BBQ tantalize your taste buds in anticipation of an old-fashioned pig roast. Bring a family favorite to share and enjoy the pork roast on us!
  • Halloween: Bring your scariest decorations to decorate your site. Everyone is welcome to dress up for the occasion and kids are invited to trick-or- treat around the campground.
  • Kids' Activities: (for kids of all ages!) Scavenger Hunts, Mini Olympics and the July Fourth Bike Parade are just some of the scheduled kids activities that we offer.
  • Upcoming Events: A few upcoming events include a Campfire at Community Fire Pit, Mother's Day Breakfast, and a Pot Luck Dinner.

Area Attractions:
  • Billings Farm and Museum Explore one of the finest operating dairy farms in America and a museum of Vermont's rural past - your gateway to Vermont's rural heritage. Billings Farm features many aspects of farm work, including care of the Jersey cows and other livestock, milking of the herd, crop rotation, and feed production.
  • Montshire Museum of Science There's something for everyone at the Montshire - interactive bubble stations, the region's largest collection of moths and butterflies, wildly creative Rube Goldberg devices, a tank where live trout swim, the topological puzzles, a colony of leaf-cutter ants, and much more. Montshire features more than 125 permanent exhibits, nationally touring and features exhibits, 'Andy's Place' - a special area scaled to size for visitors five and under, and 100 acres of trails, outdoor exhibits, a Woodland Garden, Science Park, a walking tour of the solar system, and the most intelligent water park in New England.
  • Ben and Jerry's Factory Tours Nestled in the heart of the Green Mountains, our ice cream factory sits on a rolling pasture overlooking the Worcester Range heading North from the town of Waterbury. Our guided factory tours are fun and educational for all ages. We offer guests the opportunity to learn about the production process and how the company's 3-part mission statement is incorporated into day-to-day business decisions. During the summer months you'll find outdoor activities, cows in the pasture, our Flavor Graveyard and plenty of space for picnicking.
  • Shelburne Museum Shelburne Museum is a museum of art and Americana located in Shelburne, Vermont. Over 150,000 works are exhibited in 39 exhibition buildings, 25 of which are historic and were relocated to the Museum grounds. It is located on 45 acres near Lake Champlain. Impressionist paintings, folk art, quilts and textiles, decorative arts, furniture, American paintings, and an array of 17th- to 20th-century artifacts are on view. Shelburne is home to collections of 19th-century American folk art, quilts, 19th- and 20th-century decoys, and carriages.
  • Rock of Ages Granite Quarry Tour the active granite quarry, nearly 600 feet deep. Narrated shuttle tours to the quarry operate Friday of Memorial Day weekend until mid-October (closed July 4th), with a small fee. Watch artisans in the factory polish and sculpt world-famous Barre granite. Our factory is available for self-guided tours of the artisans Monday through Friday 8:00AM - 3:30PM. Stop by our gift shop, and try stone cutting for yourself!

Reservations not accepted for PA discount. No discounts on camper rental. CASH ONLY. Pets welcome. *Rates W/E $37 and FHU $42-44. Rates are for two adults (18 and older) and up to 4 children. Add'l adults $5 per night. Maximum number of people overnight per site is 6. (larger families are welcome to contact us). There is a $5.00 fee for dump station use for registered campers.
